In 2016 I was pregnant with my third child, and the family was joyfully awaiting her arrival. However, at a prenatal care checkup, the doctor very fearfully told me that there was a problem with my baby. He said the ultrasound showed there was fluid in her abdomen. This was one month before the baby’s due date.
I was kept under observation for many hours, and an appointment was made for me to return the next day with my husband so we could talk to the doctor together and I could be examined again. At the end of that appointment, the doctor told us our baby had a malformation and would likely either be stillborn or die shortly after birth. He gave us some options and asked us kindly what we wanted to do.
I was raised in Christian Science, and its teachings have given me a strong conviction of God’s presence in my life—with me, my family, and everyone. Through the years I have experienced many healings solely through prayer and a spiritual understanding of the Bible’s inspired message gained through the study of Christian Science, and I knew God gives each of us, His ideas, all the inspiration we need to meet any moment of uncertainty. I was not afraid, though this situation was new to me, and I trusted that God was with our family and would guide us.
