Testimonies of Healing

As a lifelong Christian Scientist, I have had numerous experiences of protection and healing through reliance on Christianly scientific prayer. One memorable healing in my childhood occurred after I had been bitten by a neighbor's watchdog and sustained a severe facial laceration.

As a child I was very impressed with the wonderful stories in the Bible; however, being very serious and somewhat shy, I couldn't imagine a man "walking, and leaping, and praising God," as the man described in Acts, chapter 3, verse 8 , did when he was healed by Peter and John. I pictured that man making a spectacle of himself.

In Psalm 107 we read ( verses 2, 14 ): "Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy.

Several years ago I began an in-depth study of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy with a deep desire to get a more comprehensive understanding of its overall meaning, to understand clearly the importance of each chapter and why each one is included. So many statements in Science and Health were familiar to me from studying the Bible Lessons outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly, but I wanted a clearer understanding of their context within the book.

My husband and I met as members of a Christian Science college organization, and we have had a long, wonderful experience of learning about Christian Science and seeing the blessings of trust and faith in God. At one time we were threatened with what would have been a large financial loss.

I will never forget the wonderful feeling of stability that came into my life when my mother made the decision to return to a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. The church members welcomed my brother and sister and me with open arms, and we felt their love.

For years I suffered with deep depression. The mental anguish seemed unbearable at times.

Shortly after the turn of the century, my mother and her parents were introduced to Christian Science. They joyfully embraced this teaching.

My wife has been a dedicated Christian Scientist for many years. Our three children attended a Christian Science Sunday School and have become members of The Mother Church.

Of all my healings, I especially love those that occurred as I came to understand some very basic truths of Christian Science for the first time. While in the ninth grade I had been home from school several days with a severe cold.
