Testimonies of Healing

Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes in Science and Health (Pref. , p.

I should like to tell of two experiences especially dear to me, because they are a constant source of inspiration and encouragement. The first experience occurred when I was still quite young in Christian Science.

Christian Science has indeed given me a glorious realization of God's presence, and I can only begin to tell of the blessings which have come to me and my family through its loving ministrations. My mother had suffered from convulsive attacks for about fourteen years.

My first healing was that of a severe colonic condition from which I had suffered for five years. I had been on a very strict diet which, according to physicians, would have to be continued indefinitely.

When I became a student of Christian Science I learned that the expression of gratitude has great healing power. I have found that no matter what the stage of one's understanding of this Science may be, it is the power of God, acknowledged, accepted, and applied, that heals.

During much of the time for over twenty years I suffered from stomach ulcers, severe intestinal spasms, headaches, and nervousness. I went from doctor to doctor, being X-rayed and treated; I underwent diets, took many bottles of medicine, and spent thousands of dollars trying to get relief.

One morning upon awakening I realized that I was not hearing as clearly as usual. Immediately I began to study the weekly Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, as I do every morning, with special attention to the correcting of this erroneous condition.

Christian Science has helped me in so many ways that it would be impossible for me to express my full gratitude for it. But because of an overwhelming desire to give in return for all I have received, I submit this testimony and its account of some of the good that has come into my experience through an understanding of Science.

With deep gratitude and a humble desire to glorify God, I wish to contribute my testimony of some of the many proofs of God's care I have experienced. For all the good that has come to me through the understanding of God as All-in-all, I am deeply thankful.

I should like to state that Christian Science assuredly heals. I first heard of this Science in 1932, and the very day I heard of it I attended a Wednesday testimony meeting in a Church of Christ, Scientist.
