Testimonies of Healing
About thirty-seven years ago my mother sent me to a Christian Science practitioner for treatment after doctors had failed to help me. I had always been a delicate girl, and at that time I was told that I had pleurisy and that I lacked vitality; also that I must rest and take medicine to build up my strength.
" Christian Science is always the most skilful surgeon, but surgery is the branch of its healing which will be last acknowledged," states Mary Baker Eddy on page 402 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. " This testimony bears witness to the truth that Christian Science indeed is "the most skilful surgeon.
Christian Science was first presented to me when I was a young girl studying in a conservatory of music in a large city. I have experienced numerous healings from that time on; but for many years I relied mostly upon the help of practitioners, doing little metaphysical work for myself.
My experience in Christian Science has been a rich one, extending over a period of thirty years. The first articles I read in a Christian Science Sentinel convinced me that Science was the truth I had been searching for.
When I hear or read of people expressing gratitude for having been brought into Christian Science I cannot but realize the privilege it is to have known this demonstrable religion all my life. I am deeply thankful to have been free from dependence on medical science, especially during my service in the British Army in World War II.
As proof of the sure and permanent healing power of Christian Science through the right application of its teachings, I should like to testify to a remarkable healing of the effects of an accident. In 1920 the car in which I was riding was struck by a train at a railroad crossing.
When I was a small child I heard my parents speak of an uncle and aunt who were Christian Scientists and who never took medicine because they believed they could be healed by God. I thought how wonderful it would be if my parents believed likewise, because then I would not be compelled to take the many and varied potions which were recommended by physicians at that time.
In acknowledging my debt of gratitude to God I wish to submit this testimony. One evening I noticed that my daughter was hoarse.
It has been my desire for some time to express my appreciation of Christian Science. Ever since I began the study of Christian Science, when I was old enough to go to the Sunday School, it has been proved to me that this Science is a demonstrable religion.
When I was a small child Christian Science healed my mother, rescuing her from the doctor's verdict of lifelong semi invalidism. I cannot remember a time when this Science was not the most important thing in our home, and I am grateful for the protection it brought us as children and for the Sunday School teaching.
