Testimonies of Healing
A hymn from the Christian Science Hymnal ( No. 83 ), which includes the words, God made all His creatures free; Life itself is liberty; has always appealed to me, because Christian Science has brought me freedom.
Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, has provided many sources of help for those who are endeavoring to demonstrate in their own lives the truth of Christian Science as set forth in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. " Among these are the testimonies appearing constantly in our periodicals.
My first knowledge of Christian Science was obtained through reading the Christian Science Sentinel, especially the poems, when I was just a child. My aunt brought her copies of the Sentinel to our home, and in this manner interested my mother in Christian Science.
Twenty years ago I was suffering from a nervous breakdown, and had taken drugs for insomnia for four years. The first time that I read a few pages from the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I fell asleep and enjoyed a natural sleep until the morning.
In the past twenty years we, a family of four, have had many proofs of the healing efficacy of Christian Science. This Science came to me at an early age, and I accepted it unreservedly.
Some time ago, all I had hoped for or thought I wanted was washed away. I was suffering from a complete mental and physical breakdown.
I have permitted too many years to elapse without sending in a testimony, perhaps unintentionally waiting for something important to occur. The healing of a series of boils was my first demonstration of Truth; this condition was healed without the slightest inconvenience or thought of medication.
At the beginning of the present war, I was five months finding a home and was inclined to be depressed about it. Every time I found a suitable flat, something would prevent me from taking it.
" Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. " These words came to me at a time when, overcome with grief because of the sudden death of my husband through an accident, I was crying and praying to God to comfort me in my sorrow.
Several years ago, in the office where I was employed, a group of women who were friendly toward Christian Science asked me if I had ever known of the healing in Christian Science of harelip. I was particularly interested in the question, for I had spent months of mental agony prior to the birth of my first baby, fearing that he would inherit the condition of cleft palate, which had appeared in two members of my husband's immediate family, and, according to general belief, having skipped a generation, was due to manifest itself in his offspring.
