Testimonies of Healing
Christian Science was presented to me when it was most needed, and when it seemed as if I had no way to turn, no one to whom I could go for employment, due to false appetites for alcohol and tobacco, which had held me in bondage for a period of twenty years. Lack, disappointment, discontent, and hate, all seemed to bind me.
Words are inadequate to express my heartfelt gratitude for the physical healings, inspiration, and spiritual awakening which I have received through the study and application of Christian Science. What I am most truly grateful for is the true concept of God which I have gained through the joy of loving and serving my neighbor; also the sheer joy of living that has come to me.
My first healing in Christian Science has always been outstanding to me. The Sunday on which I first attended a church service, I sprained an ankle while alighting from a streetcar.
Christian Science has so entirely changed my life that I desire to add my testimony of gratitude for its healing and regenerating power. From childhood I had been delicate, and later developed an organic trouble of which the attention of eleven doctors and two London specialists, and a surgical operation, failed to relieve me.
In 1929 Christian Science came to me as a direct answer to prayer. I should like to relate this healing, for it was a joyous one, and I shall always remember my being so uplifted and free, because I so clearly felt and realized the nearness and ever-presence of our loving Father-Mother God.
For about fifteen years "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy was in our home and was read daily by my father. Because of prejudice toward and ignorance of the teachings of this Science, my mother would have nothing to do with it and the children thought little about it.
While I was yet quite new in Science, our daughter was born. The doctor, who knew I was having a Christian Science practitioner, said that if it had not been for my faith the baby would not have lived.
When I first heard of Christian Science, in 1926, 1 was suffering from a nervous breakdown, which later incurred the verdict from the doctor, "hereditary insanity. " Christian Science has taught me that as God's child man inherits only that which is good.
To one who has been raised in Christian Science, and who therefore has had little to overcome in the way of physical disabilities, it may have seemed hard to become cognizant of the value of this wonderful privilege. However, it is my desire to express daily my gratitude for Science, and to pattern my life after its teachings.
Some years ago I was very seriously injured physically. Much swelling, inflammation, discoloration, and great weakness resulted therefrom, and for some time I suffered great pain.
